The music program at First Lutheran School is incorporated in the curriculum to support the school’s ministry to children and their families.
The students experience music through classroom instruction. Students attend music in regular classes per week, grades Kindergarten through Eight, where students learn such basic elements of music as melody, rhythm, and harmony. Recorders are introduced in grade 3 for note-reading and instrumental instruction.
The students experience music through chapel presentations led by the students themselves. Each class prepares the message for chapel through drama, recitation, dialogue, and music once every year at the direction of the teacher.
The students experience music through worship. The class presentation prepares them also for their musical offering in the church service once each year, giving the congregation at First Lutheran an opportunity to share in the education of the children.
